2025 Section 179 Rules & Tax Deduction Information
If you're a small- or medium-scale business owner, the Section 179 tax deduction might be an opportunity for you to save on vehicle expenses. What exactly is Section 179? It's a tax provision established by the U.S. government with the objective of encouraging small businesses to invest in themselves. It does this by enabling them to write off up to 100% of the costs of vehicles purchased for business use.

Section 179 Eligibility Requirements
Both brand-new and pre-owned vehicles can qualify for the Section 179 tax benefits -- the key factor is that the vehicle is new to you and that you both purchased and put it into service during the current tax year.1 A wide variety of work-oriented vehicles from the 2025 Chevy commercial vehicle lineup -- such as Chevy cargo trucks, shuttle vans, cutaway models and other such models -- qualify for full Section 179 expensing.
Other vehicles, including conventional models like the new Chevy Equinox and Trax, may only qualify for partial deductions; the extent of these deductions is largely determined by vehicle type and weight, as well as business usage. More specific Section 179 rules for 2025 include:1
- The total deductible amount with Section 179 is up to $2,500,000.1
- The spending cap is $4,000,000.1 If your spending surpasses this amount, the deduction will begin to phase out.
- Bonus Depreciation is now 100%.1
